Then make sure you have a color selected. Make sure your new transparent layer is selected. Applying the GradientĪfter you set the gradient, you will want to create the gradient. Once you click on it should show up on the gradient name under the presets. Double click on edit gradient and look for the foreground to transparent option. Then at the top menu bar toward the right side you will see the gradient options. To setup your gradient, you can go to the Paint Bucket Tool on the left horizontal toolbar. You want to choose foreground to transparent. Next, you will need to setup your gradient. Then go the layers button at the top menu and click layers > select > New >Layer > Name the layer gradient and make sure the color is set to transparent (none) > click OK. This way, you can always go back to the original copy quickly by deleting the new layers. By doing this, you will have a backup image. Then go to your layers panels and and click the eye button to the right of the original image. To do this, you can select the layer you want to duplicate in the layers panel and then go to the top menu options and select Layer > Duplicate > rename your new copied layer to “working” > click OK. Once you have your image ready, create a copy of your background layer( should be your image). So the better the image, the more dramatic the end product will be. This type of effect works great for marketing products, logos, and backgrounds. After choosing the image, you will need to color correct, adjust brightness/darkness and anything else that will make the image look good. After doing the effect on several pictures you will start to understand what pictures will work and ones that will not work. If you choose the wrong one, it won’t look all that good. The first thing you want to do is choose the right images for this effect. Fading an image tutorial is designed for beginner Photoshop users.
